Local SEOM to Central Server Migration
What is it?
Your first question might be, what is a local to central server migration?
Simply put, once completed, all of the order processing work performed by
your PCs will be done by one centrally managed computer. The PCs will no longer
run SEOM, but will connect to this central server over the internet. Once
connected to the server, it will look as if their PC is doing all of the processing,
but in reality it is doing nothing but connecting to the server that is doing all
of the work now.
What are the benefits?
The benefits of this configuration are many and aren't always readily
apparent. Here they are:
Process Orders from Anywhere
Without the need for another computer at the office to connect to (via
remote access services), employees connect to a single server running multiple copies
of SEOM that each can run independently of each other. All that is needed
is an internet connection and you'll be able to process orders like you are at the
office. There are customers who have over seas employees who access SEOM running
on a centrally managed server every day. It works surprisingly fast and is
reliable for them.
Process Orders Faster
Servers keep getting faster and more reliable. One of the limiting
factors in performance is network speed and processing power of your PCs.
Since all of the SEOM components are local to a server, the network performance
no longer becomes a factor so the speed to your database is lightening quick!
We have heard customers say that when they moved to a central server, SEOM was running
so fast it felt like it was on steroids.
Maximize Time by Spending Less of it
Managing the Network
Having your SEOM on a centrally managed server removes you from having
to deal with many of the headaches involved with running a networked application
like Stone Edge. TC can automate and make sure that your backups are working
correctly and troubleshoot any issue that comes up on the central server.
For a number of customers, TC is the sole resource used to maintain both SEOM and
the central server.
How Long Does the Migration Take?
Not long at all. There is a customer of TC which called on a Monday
morning wanting to move to a central server solution. By Friday of that week
they moved all of their order processing to the server. Because of TC's strategic
relationships with vendors and the standardization of the process, we can move you
quick.
